Beyoncé
Beyoncé is one of the greatest American R’n’B’ singers, songwriters, dancers and models of our time. She in the good company of Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams, them being solo artists with a background in a musical "supergroup". Destiny's Child, *NSYNC and Take That have all split up, but the remnants are still with us today.
Background
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, more known as Beyoncé, was born 1981 in Huston, Texas. Beyoncé took dance- and singing classes while growing up, and went to a special elementary school focused on music during her teens. Attending an audition for an all-girl group when she was eight years old, Beyoncé met LaTavia Roberson and together with Kelly Rowland, they formed the group Girl's Tyme. The remnants of Girl's Tyme is what later became Destiny's Child.
Destiny's Child
Together with Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, Beyoncé was the fourth member in Destiny's Child. The group's self-titled debut came out in early 1998. The album was a success, selling over 1.000.000 copies worldwide. It is however their second album "The Writing's on the Wall" that is considered their breakthrough album.
Destiny's Child was however torn by the members fighting eachother and their manager. Eventually, Roberson and Luckett left the group, and Michelle Williams a former back-up singer joined instead. The great success of Destiny's child continued in spite of the turbulence surrounding the group.
After the turbulence, Beyoncé stepped forth as the prominent figure of the group, and she wrote and produced much of the material on the groups third album "Survivor". This album granted them many awards the following year.
During the years before and after Destiny's Child, the three members all focused on their separate side-projects. All three albums reached high sales numbers, though Beyoncé's "Dangerously In Love" reached the highest.
The group's last studio album "Destiny Fulfilled" was released in 2004, and during the following tour in 2005, they announced their official break-up.
Ongoing Solo Career
Beyoncé released her second solo album "B'Day" in 2006, on her 25th birthday. "B'Day" debuted as number one on the Billboard list, and has sold three-times platinum since then. The album was however critized for being poorly produced, and Beyoncé re-released it in 2007 as a deluxe edition with five new songs added.
Her latest album is "I am... Sasha Fierce", released in late 2008. The name Sasha Fierce is said to be Beyoncé's scene persona, the character she adopts when going on stage.
Beyoncé's latest release is the song “Telephone”, together with Lady Gaga. A unusual combination between pop and R’n’B’, the best from two worlds.
